the qs world university rankings ranks more than 26,000 universities from 84 countries around the world.
key indicators include academic reputation, citations per faculty, student-to-faculty ratio, employer reputation, international faculty ratio and international student ratio.

the times higher education world university rankings 2020 lists the best global universities based on 13 core performance indicators including, teaching (30%), research (30%), research citations (30%), international outlook and industry income (2.5%).
academic rankings of world universities

key indicators include the number of alumni and staff winning nobel prizes and fields medals, highly cited researchers, articles published in journals such as nature and science , articles indexed by science citation index-expanded (scie) and social science citation index (ssci), per capita academic performance of an institution.
excellence in research australia
the excellence in research for australia (era) initiative is an evaluation of research quality across 41 universities by the australian government.
macquarie is currently placed in the top institutions for research, with 100 per cent of 2-digit research activity rated at world standard or above. macquarie achieved a 50 per cent increase in the number of 4-digit fields of research that received the highest possible ‘5’ rating. macquarie has maintained consistently excellent performance in physical sciences and environmental sciences, achieving the highest era ratings for these areas in 2010, 2012, 2015 and 2018.
